Despite the booming global entertainment industry, German production companies are facing significant challenges. Public broadcasters are sorting themselves out and re-prioritizing their own program portfolio. This is leading to cancellations of orders that were believed to be secure or the reduction of established series. The reawakening cinema market also offers almost forgotten opportunities, but requires a well-considered balance in development. Targeted precision and a healthy balance were also required at the 25th "Filmszene Bayern auf Eis" at the end of the Munich Film Week - a great start to the 2023 production year, despite the emergency services being deployed.
The Berlinale begins next week and offers a variety of formats to discuss the challenges of the production industry and film culture in Germany. The Production Breakfast, a joint event of various companies for invited guests in the IFP Lounge (from February 17-18, 2023 in the Paulaner at Potsdamer Platz), is one such platform. At the end of January, the traditional and popular networking meeting of the Bavarian film industry took place at the end of the Munich Film Week, also organized by Ensider. The winning team consisted of Andrea Lambsdorff, Uschi Reich, Stefan Kampwirth, Friedrich Mücke and Fabian Wolfart, who prevailed against around 100 representatives. In her welcoming speech, the managing director of FFF Bavaria , Dorothee Erpenstein, recalled the beginnings. The event was initiated by Lothar Just in his area of responsibility for communications at the FFF. Many of the partners who are still active today quickly came together to make this idea a reality.
ARRI , Bavaria Studios , Constantin Film , Leonine Studios , LfA Förderbank , ndf:neue deutsche Filmgesellschaft and TOBIS and under the patronage of the FFF FilmFernsehFonds Bayern , in cooperation with adag payroll services , Black Forest Studios , cattleya , International Film Partners , Ludwig Kameraverleih , OneGate Media , Optical Art and Theaterkunst, invited people to a network classic on the ice, with the support of Hilton Hotels , Producers Alliance Services and VTFF . What reads like the credits is based on the high appreciation that industry representatives have for this quarter-century classic.
Unfortunately, a team member from IFP/Ensider had an accident at this event. We all wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to his return soon. Thank you to all participants who took the short-term improvisation in good spirits. A very special thank you goes to Judith Erber and Mitch Boxrucker for their courageous intervention, as well as to all first responders - real teamwork that reflects the spirit of the event.
Our events in Berlin also required spontaneity and improvisation: Due to water damage, we had to move from our previous, well-known location in the SonyCenter to the Paulaner at Potsdamer Platz at short notice.
If you are interested in a personal exchange in the IFP Lounge or in one of the last tickets for the Production Breakfast (exclusively for producers and top management), we look forward to receiving a short message.
