Virtual film production is certainly one of the biggest changes that film production has ever experienced. Not only are pretty much all known and imaginable parameters being re-established - filmmaking itself is changing fundamentally. From a technical point of view, two genres are merging in virtual film production: games and films. Only with the help of powerful game engines, which use their special frameworks to control the game and ensure the special visual representation of the game's progression, can the latest LED technologies now enable virtual film productions with real-time rendering, i.e. without any delay. With our new Ensider:Partner , ICT AG , we are joining this new type of film production.
Virtual production not only replaces the green screen, but revolutionizes the entire production process. In principle, it allows reality and virtually created backdrops to merge in real time - this affects both the perspective, i.e. the camera, and the image composition including light, color and set, as well as the actors. Everything takes place in a studio. The camera is connected to a game engine and moves in a virtual space. A tracking system determines the position of the real camera and transfers the position to a virtual camera. Using the position, the real-time engine can display the correct perspective - even with a moving camera - in real time. LED screens as tall as a house render the backgrounds extremely precisely and display them pixel-precisely in real time.
The advantages of virtual production are clear: even pre-production is being redefined, as, for example, location visits for filming on original locations are no longer necessary. Thanks to virtual scouting and digital film sets, sketches can be created for 3D rooms that can later be entered and fully used during filming in the studio.
Virtual film production also makes the entire post-production process much easier, as the entire image can be determined during filming and recorded in perfect final quality. Another advantage is that this type of film production prevents expensive delays in filming or even reshoots. In addition, directors can not only enjoy almost unlimited creative freedom, but also retain absolute control over the world in which the film is set. One example of many productions that could be realized in virtual sets is the DisneyPlus series "The Mandalorian" .
ICT AG , our new Ensider:Partner , has not only been an expert in innovative live communication and media technology for over 30 years. They work together with studios, broadcasters and companies for a wide range of formats such as TV shows, advertising productions, TV studios and, above all, virtual productions. HALOSTAGE , their own Virtual Production Studio in Potsdam, is the only LED volume to offer flexible shapes for all film productions on the Studio Babelsberg site. The studio is booked there with cinematographic LED screens, a fully equipped digital village and an experienced team for numerous, very individual productions. Temporary VP studios can also be set up and operated worldwide.
Together with ICT AG, we want to explore the future of film production and look forward to many exciting film projects that will be realized with the help of virtual production.
Now we are looking forward to the numerous networking events in our Ensider:Lounge . We are starting with the European Film Market Lounge on February 10th. You can find all information about the EFM and all other events in the Ensider:Lounge . See you there!
