People are social beings by nature. Social media serves many of these needs. Emotional learning influences purchasing decisions and conveys messages. This is exactly how films work: identification figures take us viewers along on the adventures of a stranger. But films only work if we can believe what we see. Incredibly diverse casts, hermit motifs with fewer extras and unnaturally sparse narratives destroy the illusion and thus the film. The cost-cutting measures of the broadcasters force production companies to save on background noise - but it is precisely this that makes a film and decides whether the film delivers what the story promises.
Anyone who watches American series and movies that were not made for the big screen will quickly notice the hustle and bustle of people. New people are constantly enriching the settings and supporting the moods and authenticity of the plot. Managers are tortured with workshops to improve their leadership skills through more credibility. Employees only believe when the levels of thinking, saying and acting are in perfect agreement. What filmmakers have known for a long time is increasingly being sacrificed to cost pressure. A holiday beach without holidaymakers, a club without crowds on the dance floor, a large company without employees, a supermarket without customers - irritating.
How do you preserve the elements that are important for the film? This is a question that editors argue about with contract producers and production executives (HL/PL) with directors. If the omission of such important components becomes the norm, the quality of the products will decline and with it the success at home and abroad, the fascination for career starters or for those who want to reorient themselves. Isn't it in all of our interests to preserve our core brand "Emotion"? Instead of the number of minutes on the program, it should always be about the good film.
Especially today, there are many useful ways to save money in crucial areas without sacrificing quality. There are many digital solutions available in production to streamline procedures and processes in the interests of business optimization. From digital employment contracts to various tools for collaborative and thus systemic work.
Even in teams, people work who want to be led, guided and listened to. Many modern leadership and communication techniques are not even known to decision-makers. Where are the training courses for agile project management, fair leadership and fear-free organization? Other industries are miles ahead of us in this regard.
The biggest lever for costs, but also for quality and sustainability, is planning. Most of the costs arise from the shooting time itself. Pre-visualization, the 100-year-old Walt Disney method, Pixar's development system and many other methods are used far too little. AI tools in particular give us many additional tools to take all stakeholders on board on the same visual basis, instead of leaving everyone with their own film based on the script in their head before production begins.
Many things are shot too much and some too little. With two days of shooting saved, many props, costumes and extras can be paid for.
