TOBIS Film is one of the leading independent film distributors in Germany. Since its founding in 1971, more than 400 national and international titles have delighted over 225 million cinemagoers across the entire DACH region. The portfolio includes classics such as “The Fifth Element”, “Hannibal” and the “Bad Moms” franchise as well as Oscar-nominated and award-winning films such as “Amadeus”, “The Pianist”, “Brokeback Mountain”, “12 Years A Slave” and most recently “The Father”. The two most recent in-house productions “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” and “Catweazle” alone have attracted more than 1.2 million cinemagoers.
Current international TOBIS co-productions include “The Magic Flute”, a modern interpretation of Mozart's classic opera for the whole family, the biopic “Lady Nazca” about the German mathematician Maria Reiche, who pioneered research into the mysterious Nazca Lines in Peru in the 1940s, and “A Whole Life”, an adaptation of Robert Seethaler's international bestseller directed by Marcus H. Rosenmüller. The Robbie Williams biopic “Better Man” and the latest in-house production “Jagdsaison” are just a few other highlights of the upcoming TOBIS distribution season. In addition, TOBIS, together with ZDF and Syrreal Entertainment, co-produced Christian Alvart's eight-part TV series “Sløborn”, about the outbreak of a deadly virus, which impressed with its explosive topicality when it was broadcast in summer 2020 and will be continued with a second season on free TV in early 2022.
